Signet and AGC Redefine Student Success with Trade Excellence Awards in Western Kentucky

Paducah, KY (April 29, 2026) — Signet Federal Credit Union, in partnership with Associated General Contractors of Western Kentucky, has awarded 14 graduating seniors across Western Kentucky with the inaugural Trade Excellence Award, recognizing students who demonstrate outstanding skill, work ethic, and readiness to enter the workforce. Each recipient will receive a $250 scholarship, with five students earning top regional honors and a custom Signet and AGC graduation stole to be presented during their school’s senior recognition ceremonies.

“Our goal is simple—we want every student to feel seen, valued, and celebrated for the path they choose,” said Amy Mills, HR Assistant at Signet Federal Credit Union. “For too long, success has been defined in one direction. This partnership allows us to stand beside students who are choosing to work with their hands, build their futures, and strengthen our communities. We are proud to support them—not just today, but as they step into their careers.”

Out of 14 participating high schools across the 11 counties Signet serves, the following students were named the top five technical students in the region: Dawson Thompson of Livingston Central High School, Ayden Bagwell of Graves County High School, Ulises Mateo of Mayfield High School, Brian Shaffer of McCracken County High School, and Jake Trevathan of Carlisle County High School. These students were selected in collaboration with Career and Technical Education instructors and AGC industry professionals based on craftsmanship, leadership, reliability, and overall job readiness.

“This is more than an award—it’s a shift in perspective,” said Joel Crider of the Associated General Contractors of Western Kentucky. “These students represent the future of our workforce. They are stepping directly into careers that keep our communities running and growing. Through this partnership, we are making it clear that choosing a trade is not a second option—it is a strong, respected, and essential path forward.”

The Trade Excellence Award was created to ensure students pursuing careers in welding, construction, automotive, electrical, and other technical fields receive the same level of recognition traditionally reserved for academic achievements tied to four-year college pathways. The initiative is fully funded by Signet Federal Credit Union.

Rooted in a history built by working men and women, Signet’s investment reflects its founding story—established in 1939 by railroad workers who pooled their money to support one another. Today, that same mission continues through initiatives that uplift the individuals building Western Kentucky’s future.

By recognizing these students publicly, Signet and AGC aim to send a clear message: skilled trades are vital, honorable, and worthy of celebration. This award affirms that success does not follow a single path—and that the students choosing to enter the workforce directly after graduation are not only prepared, but essential.
